Kim and I both ride 2010 Surly Long Haul Truckers. Knowing that cycle touring was in our future we researched long and hard to find the best suited steel horses to carry us down whatever path may be ahead. The LHT stood out for a few reasons:
A CroMoly steel frame that could make riding smooth and easy over nearly any terrain. The components that came standard were good quality and didn’t need upgrading to be worthy of going the distance. The frame came with all of the appropriate dropout eyelets to bolt on any other equipment that we might need. And our local bike shop made it within our price range at just over $1000.
All of these features and finding a proven track record of happy bicycle tourist online sporting the Surly LHT made it an easy choice when it was all said and done. And I am very pleased with our decision. I used my LHT as the daily commuter for several months before hitting the road in Europe and am happy to say that my bike has handled everything that I could throw at it. From cruising the streets in the capital city of Louisiana back in the States to climbing dirt-bike trails over mountains outside of Barcelona the Surly Long Haul Trucker has not disappointed.
At this point, three countries into our tour of Europe Kim and I are both very pleased with the way that our LHTs have continuously carried us forward with ease and enjoyment.
